He has been criticized for being unserious and partying too much. Waving the "flag" when having a nice ride. Being a bit too crazy to handle.
But after his late rise into the World Top 40, super versatile star climber "Odd" Oddvar Helgesen is truly ready for Division 1.
- I do not do so much partying and dancing with drags right now. I am focusing a lot on Division 1 success with my coach and mental helper Chris Boardman from the Board, Oddvar tells us.
- I have really prepared myself, which paid off with a Top 5 at the Volta of Portugal recently. But I want more. Next step will be a Tour in Division 1 later this winter, where I can both climb and use my new found TT skills, he says.
According to Team Manager Ebbe Spas, Oddvar is better than ever. But the potential should be even higher :
- I am sure that Oddvar can achieve a bit more than now, where we worked a lot on the Tours last season and this season. New equipment and even more TT training will help him. Perhaps Dr. Ferrari's new generation of DYNepo bars will be a hit too!
- His Top 5 recently was his best Tour results, but let's see later here in February with the Polish Tour. Oddvar's profile will fit it okay nicely, especially if he can keep his time loss down at the prologue, Ebbe Spas says.
