Halfway Status - Season 57

Written by Team Blitz at 09:23 6/7-2021

With season 57 more than halfway done, it's time for a status of the season so far.

Financially, the team rounded a milestone and reached an estimated squad value 1.000.000$ for the first time since reducing the squad size last season. More importantly, we saw much better luck with sponsors compared to season 56 where the team was struggling to find the right combination of sponsors.

Additionally, we have so far ended the row of bad luck which resulted in long-term injuries for multiple key riders throughout the last part of season 56.

Despite all this, results have been mixed.

In the sprint part of the squad, Luis das Neves proved the manager right when he decided to make Neves sprint captain instead of Nkosana Founda and Oluf Lund. Neves ended the already far too long winless streak the team had been suffering under since Oluf Lund's glory days in the lower divisions. The win aside, Neves has finished in the top 9 of every race he has participated in, proving himself a strong and reliable sprint captain.

On the hill-sprint part of the squad, though, captain Patrick Bruggen has been struggling to find his rhythm. He is only 22 and still inexperienced, so we expect him to stabilize in the coming seasons and deliver on the potential he showed in season 55 and 56.

The manager also had to admit that neither the tactics nor the team in place to support Bruggen have been adequate. The tactics have been updated recently based on feedback from more experienced managers, and Arthur Toole and Peratut Jansong have been brought in to support Bruggen in the hilly terrains. So far, this seemed have done the trick with Bruggen finishing just outside the elusive top 3 in a couple of races.

In future prospects, the manager have decided to drop the plans to expand into cobbled races for the near future since neither talent nor the finances are present for such and expansion at the moment.

We have faith that the current team will deliver good results for many years to come, though, with an average age of just 25 years and many of the key riders being younger than that. Besides Neves and Bruggen, Swiss talent Mario Schönegger seems particularly promising as an allround rider. He is still developing but already proving a valuable helper for Bruggen. Who knows, if he keeps improving he could turn into a potential captain himself.
