Team Bobyn are sad to announce the retirement of Stanislav Chupov also known as Chupov "the old block" for his resiliance and unquestioning loyalty to team and fellow teamates.
Born in Sumy, Northern Ukraine - he developed an interest at an early age before heading tpo technical University. A lover of the outdoors with a pechant for hiking and mountaineering - he fused this interest with his new found natural talent in cycling - specifically downhills.
Discovered during a TB summer camp in the Carpathian and joined the Youth Academy in S55 under the expert tutelage of TB Downhill greats like Bugayev, Dolzhikov and Polishchuk
Never really an accomplished great in cycling but he served as a key supporting cog for the TB downhill team - although many would say technically Chupov was TB best ever technical downhiller.
Chupov hit the ground hard in his first year, and aged 20 went straight into D5 first team races. He proved himself a comitted downhill domestique which also came to the attention of the NT as he picked up his first NT cap.
Chupov never really set the ground alight but afer a long wait -some 4 seasons into his career he picked up his first place - an 8th at the Elbrus Kometa.
In S60 Chupov secured even greater success with a podium 3rd Penticton - Kelowna and this was followed with 2 placements in the following season. With Bugayev retiring in S62 - Chupov lost his mentor and his way a little. However he quickly responded with two sucessive podiums in two siccessive seaons with a crowiong best ever season in S65 empasised by a career best performance runners up in the D4 Burgenland Grand Prix S65.
Sadly though this proved to be the peak of his career as he was never able to secure a place of podium until his retirement some 9 seasons later.
Sadly missed - although we're pleased he will be joining the TB coaching team. Given the term old block given his determined and never allowing anything to get in his way and indeed paved the way for the Downhill greats of Bugayev, Polischuk and Dolzhikov to shine.
