Season 72 review

Written by ProgressTeam at 01:15 16/4-2025

Outstanding season for ProgressTeam! The 7th season for our team has proven to be lucky and the best in the team's history so far. Our "tours season" in brief: 6 podiums and 3 jerseys in 5 tours.

Our two leaders: Poland Gerald Imiołek and Laos Kholadeth Vongsamany, did not disappoint. Plus, we had a few extra, unexpected results, and the overall result for our team is just amazing! Almost all goals for season 72 were achieved at least at a good level. And the fact that Spain Gabriel Lanos accidentally took 2nd place in the last race of the season (one might say a training race) only emphasizes how successful this season was, even though it slightly disrupted our plans for the next season (It wasn't our plan to end the season in the 2nd Division :) ).

What didn't go as planned? Gerald Imiołek is still looking for a jersey for himself. 2nd place in the Austria Rundfahrt der Schlösser der Alpen, 3rd place in the Switzerland Monte Rosa Tour, 4th place in the Ukraine Karpaty Tyr – it's close, but still far. There was also a moment when the Polish Championship seemed within reach, but an injury at the end of the season prevented him from competing for the victory.

  Key statistic:
  - 25 results - 9 wins, 4 seconds, 10 thirds and 2 others
  - 1383 points - 107th overall, 5th National

  Best riders:
  - Laos Kholadeth Vongsamany – 6 wins, 1 second, 3 thirds (498 points)
  - Poland Gerald Imiołek – 2 wins (+1 for NT), 2 seconds, 6 thirds and 1 other (679 points)
  - Spain Gabriel Lanos – 1 second, 5th on Denmark VCK Classic (120 points)

  Winning races:
  - France Fréjus - Col de Turini
  - Norway Hemsedal GP
  - Laos Pakkading - Phou Bia (U23)
  - Canada Edmonton Red Deer Tour – Youth Classification
  - Canada Edmonton Red Deer Tour – Stage 2
  - South Africa Tour of the Western Cape – General Classification
  - South Africa Tour of the Western Cape – Youth Classification
  - South Africa Tour of the Western Cape – Stage 2
  - South Africa Tour of the Western Cape – Stage 3

  Departure and arrival hall:
  Welcomes:
  - Poland Konstanty Iwanicki – hill helper for Kholy
  - Netherlands Axel Sijmonds – hill helper talent + maybe hlcl leader for some races
  - Kyrgyzstan Gennady Levin – HLSP talent already sold
  - Italy Ludo Dagaro – LOSP talent, soon on transfer market

  Goodbyes:
  - Kyrgyzstan Gennady Levin

The next season is expected to be even more intense, as our future CL-captain Denmark Emil Åberg and our HL-climber Spain Gabriel Lanos will get their chances.

  Goals for season 73:
  - Canada Edmonton Red Deer Tour and South Africa Tour of the Western Cape with Vongsamany
  - Ukraine Karpaty Tyr with Imiolek
  - Norway Norway Tour with Aberg
  - usa Tour of Hawaii with Lanos or Lemaire
  - Denmark VCK Classic with Vongsamany or Lanos
  - U23 races with Netherlands Axel Sijmonds and also his HL-helper training
  - Focus on strengthening the CL-team, as the current domestiques are getting older
