Team Manager Pete today announces the retirement of long-serving rider Sam Mardell, bringing to a close one of the most enduring and respected careers in the team's history. After joining PRS in August 2022, Mardell has been a loyal servant to the team, competing in 383 races for PRS and 450 races overall, while also representing the Isle of Man national team on 29 occasions.
Now aged 39, Mardell leaves the sport with a reputation as a consistent climber and dependable stage racer. His strongest attribute was his climbing ability, supported by strong sprinting and all-round racecraft that enabled him to remain competitive across a wide variety of terrain throughout his career.
Among his many achievements, Mardell's breakthrough performances came during the early stages of his career, where he recorded a series of podium finishes in prestigious stage races and climbing events. His career highlights include:
• 3rd overall at the Monaco - La Condamine race (Season 63)
• 4th overall at the Øyer Climbs (Season 64)
• 4th overall at the Ile de Beauté Alpine (Season 65)
• Multiple top-10 finishes in stage races and one-day events throughout Seasons 62 to 70.
Mardell will perhaps be best remembered for two standout stage-racing achievements:
• Winner of the Youth Classification in the Season 63 Perm Tour, where he also finished an impressive 6th overall.
• 6th Overall in the Season 66 Two Tour Pass, demonstrating his longevity and ability to compete against elite opposition deep into his career.
Throughout his time with PRS, Mardell embodied professionalism, dedication and team spirit. His willingness to support teammates, represent the Isle of Man on the international stage, and continue competing at a high level across nearly 450 races made him a valued figure both within the team and across the wider Cycling Simulator community.
Speaking on the announcement, the team praised Mardell's contribution:

Whether fighting for results in the mountains, supporting teammates, or proudly representing the Isle of Man, Sam always gave everything. We thank him for his tremendous service and wish him every success in retirement."
As he steps away from competitive racing, Sam Mardell leaves behind a legacy built on resilience, loyalty and memorable performances spanning many seasons. His name will remain firmly etched in PRS history as one of the team's most respected riders.
