Late last season, Lindfield Locknuts paid a huge transfer fee to bring Dutchman Mark van Hintum in from Alpine, as a second leader alongside Rafiki Jean de Dieu Kalisa. He started his Locknuts career unspectacularly with a couple of places in Season 67 then 3rd on GC in Graz Schlossberg at the start of this season.
But he was building up to lead the Locknuts in the Norway Tour for the first time. The best support squad possible went with him including Kalisa as Super Domestique but the Rwandan was injured quite early and reduced to water carrying. Matrix Team’s Dechev was the threat throughout but van Hintum finally managed an emphatic win in the penultimate Queen stage to grab the GC last won by the team in Season 65 with former talisman Frederik Stephansen taking his second Norway outright.
