In recent weeks, Lindfield Locknuts have been scraping together their sponsor pennies, and gradually training up a new pretender to the leader’s jersey, Luxembourg’s Hagen Hunzberger. He has turned 25 during his training (his age prompted some entertaining debate after one of our previous PRs). He may still have a little more potential, but team manager Sits With Remote decided it was time to try usual captain Clayton Gaby in a support role.
The race in question was the Mount Shahdagh GP in Azerbaijan, and Clayton took his temporary demotion on the chin, did his support job with the rest of the team, and Hagen came in an impressive second place! It’s been a long podium drought for the Locknuts, after they really struggled in Division 6. They are enjoying the relative comfort of Division 7.
After the race, manager Remote had this to say: “I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my first few months in charge of a team, and will surely make many more. But I’ve had a lot of very welcome advice, and I feel as though we are gradually moving in the right sort of direction. I don’t expect us to be world beaters, but if we can stay solvent, we can at least have some fun. I’m very pleased with Hagen, he has repaid my faith in him at the first opportunity. Clayton knows he’s the main man, but he’s not getting any younger and I hope he will mentor Hagen from now on.”
