The Colombian National Team, or the Escarabajos as they are known, are going through generational changes with exciting new riders entering the scene. The change is made most evident by the new #1 and Colombian Jersey holder Farruco Alonso taking it from long time leader of the team and cobbler legend Estebe Mauri.
While the nation is very sad to start to see the decline of the 31 year old Mauri, there is much excitement for the young Alonso, a natural tour rider who has left quite a mark in Vuelta de los Castillos(#1GC,#1YC) and Essex(#4GC,#2YC) this season as well as a second place in the Lisboa - Peniche Division A World Tour Race.
Other exciting new riders include
+Adolfo Rebuelta, a sprinter that might not be very complete overall but has had a very successful season.
+Guillermo Posados, another great tour rider by Abelixe that did very well in Norway and Perm this season.
+Sebastiano Calero a very talented Climber also brought up from Abelixe's training school.
+Renaldo Ibanez another interesting tour rider that will help his team SolenTechnology rise fast through the ranks.
We also take this time to honor those in the twilight of their career:
Victoriano Carderas The Grandfather of the team. At 36 years old his days riding as a professional are numbered but he will always be remember for the many podiums he brought to the national team.
Fido Tuero A talented rider that unfortunately never got the chance to ride any tours
Jaime Benet The team's captain during mountain stages during an era with unfortunate lack of climber talent for a proper support
Now we look to the future and with the hope of WT tour as the rumors whisper so the full potential of our new National team talents can be showcased.
