Season 61

Written by AnnoDomini at 23:49 1/8-2022

We are all older by another 90 days! Season 61 becomes history and Season 62 becomes reality.

For AnnoDomini this was a very good one with record breaking 2200 pts and 48th place in world ranking, though In the past that score would grant us a place in top 40 surely.

Anyway we are super happy with 2 wins and 14 results. Both wins came from Kajetan Krawczyk, who scored 1030pts and was close to a national champ jersey. We are also happy we managed to be in top 9 GC in all 3 tours which we started: Haute-Normandie (4th, Krawczyk), Vuelta a Valparaiso (3rd, Jonatan Edvard) and Volta ao Porto (9th, Halas).

Other riders who scored points for the team were Nick Funder (510pts), Jonatan Edvard (280pts), Georg Alfke (120pts), Denis Halas (100pts), Heribert Baumert (90pts), Jacek Pietrzak (40pts) and Dominic Bernoulli (30pts).

In terms of the squad we are now 95% white-red flag team with just one rider having different flag colors. However he is already 33yo, so will retire with the team and in 2-3 seasons time we will achieve our goal of being a 100% white-red flag team. Yay!

Season 62 means also that the 10 year contracts of our trainers have expired and we will hire new ones. We have been very methodical about our choice this time and we made sure that the 3 new trainers will best cover wide range of training skills. We are happy to announce our trainers will be: Gustaw Banas (CL96, DH74, TQ64), Kajetan Lis (HL78, FR85) and a rider who just few days ago retired from professional racing with our team - Thomas Menard (CB98, SP73).

First goal for the trainers will be to train Konrad Antonowicz, our climbing TTer who, as we hope, will take the leading role from Denis Halas in climbing tours and time trials. Next we will look to strenghten our cobble team with a new talent who is yet to be revealed.

That's it I guess, so good luck to all in next 90 days and see you on the road...

Well, you know many managers play this game in a non optimal way - train weird talents, stick with one country etc :-) I have a lot of very bad riders who retired with my team, they will probably never become trainers :-)

Goege Team at 16:49 3/8-2022
What I wanted to say is that if you keep a rider until he‘s ready to retire he must be good (most likely in more than one skill) and therefore you‘ll end up with choosing the same riders.
In your example I‘d prefer a more balanced rider.

AnnoDomini at 14:15 3/8-2022
Not really Goege - i guess the number of trainers is the key here. You can hire 6 and have each of them 90+ in one skill. But if you want to have only 3, then you have to make choices, pick one with 90+ in one skill or maybe hire one which has 75 in 3 skills, to have a wider range of skills covered.
I think there should be a limit of trainers and that way it would force managers to make the decis

Goege Team at 06:04 3/8-2022
I just hire every Namibian that is ready to retire as trainer ;-)
I think it doesn‘t matter much if you do it your or Franks way, you‘ll end up with the same trainers in most cases anyway.

Holwerda Cycling at 21:35 2/8-2022
CL, SP An FR are my primary stats indeed. My trainers often have another good side stat anyway.

AnnoDomini at 21:32 2/8-2022
If I took that approach and would want to keep 3 trainers, I'd pick CL, DH and CB - and if I were to pick best trainers in those stats, I would have ended up with Banas and Menard anyway (the 2 I hired now) plus Regis Hollands instead of Kajetan Lis. I would have no FR and HL, but a better DH trainer then... Interesting...

AnnoDomini at 21:27 2/8-2022
OK, so you kind of assume you will be training your riders in 4 most important skills for you - and the rest of skills you dont really care much, right?

Holwerda Cycling at 21:24 2/8-2022
I look at which stat is needed and choose the best trainer for it. They started at different seasons with me.

AnnoDomini at 21:23 2/8-2022
Thanks. On the trainers: I did the calculations and this trio gives me highest total of their best skills as a group. I keep wondering how other managers decide on which trainers to hire? Anyone wishes to share their approach?

Holwerda Cycling at 21:19 2/8-2022
  Congratulations on the good season!
Nice to see you plan your trainers like this :)

Universal Soup at 11:01 2/8-2022
Nice season, keep it up! Maybe you can take Austria, Poland, Switzerland and Denmark to a "visit" in Germany and give it a new flag color :D
