Season 46 was surely the greatest in over 30 seasons history for AnnoDomini. We have scored 2038 points which is our second best result, but most of all, our rider Ward Engelbert surprised everyone with a late breakaway attack during the World Championships and won the title for himself and the team. We have the road race World Champion in our team and we are very proud of it! Ward still can’t believe he actually made it as it was also his first ever win in the professional cycling!!! What a breakthrough! (shame we don’t have this award anymore…).
Now time for a few words about each points scorer plus a few transfer news in the end.
Gustaw Banas – 750pts
Points-wise Gustaw was the strongest rider in the team. Our rising star has won the YC jersey in the Volta ao Porto and finished 4th in GC. This will be our climbing captain for the few seasons to come, at least for the highest mountains and tours.
Orlando Kacciavurian – 640pts
Our DH captain did pretty well, he won Trofeo Bajando a Granada for the 2nd time in his career, however we hoped he could get one or even two more results (he was close, 5th places in both Rio-Pico and Elias Marquez), as then he could be fighting for the best Dher title. But maybe next time…
Bernard Kozak – 260pts
Solid season with a win and two other top 9 results. Bernard is now in his prime time so he will have a chance to lead the team in a few races next season, substituting Julian Cichocki.
Jorg Meyer – 160pts
Jorg is our hill climber captain and he will be leading the team in some races. Last season he got his first result in Ainet – Bruggen and was close to the podium in Highlinder’s Race to Aberdeen. He was very disappointed with the 4th place there and he is now training hard to come back and take a podium spot in that race.
Jurre Bekkers – 50pts
Jurre is approaching 28yo and he is planning to be in top form soon for a few races. He just needs to time this well and then he will get all the help he can from his team mates to get a result or two.
Pawel Urbanowicz – 40pts
Pawel is doing good job in supporting our cobble captains and from time to time he will be given a free hand to take part in breakaways.
Julian Cichocki – 8pts
This was definitely the worst season ever for Julian. He had a difficult period, got sick with pneumonia, which took quite long time to cure, but it looks like all is ok now and he has gained back his focus and is training for Roubaix and TvA.
On the riders front Mariusz Haber has just retired at the end of the season, so big thanks to him for all those years where he helped out top downhillers to chase for the wins. As it comes to young riders we are training a young Polish rider Kajetan Lis, who is not a typical cyclist, so it will be interesting to see how he develops - plus we will be training a Belgian climber just after that.
Thanks for reading and good luck everyone next season!
