Contract Negotiations IX

Written by Amstel Flanders at 00:50 20/8-2025

After another long break, our management is back to work on necessary renewals to keep the core of this humble squad going for the coming seasons, as well renegotiate in ‘kind’ way with our veterans, so they free some wage for the younger riders.

Counting with up to 5M€ as total wage fee, we'll detail the salaries and the current state of negotiations with our riders that are ending contract or having one season left before so.

Denmark Emil Sønderby: Probably he is now considered by many more of our fans as the most successful and consistent cyclist we’ve ever had, Emil will soon turn 34 and the Danish star feels strong enough to keep pedalling a bit more. The Captain Ahab will remain with same salary as it’s a special status above all other team leaders. Discussions with his agent have been positive and it’s a matter of time to announce his renewal until the end of S76, with an option to extend his contract up to S77.

Current contract: 2.5M€ salary per season, until S75.
Team offer: 2.5M€ salary per season, until S76 (S77 as optional).

Belgium Mathias De Fauw: ‘Maty’ had a difficult S73, with almost no chance to ride as a Sprint Captain. But our staff considers crucial his renewal before the end of the season, as his contract finishes at D90 of S74. Negotiations won’t be easy and Manager Williamson wants to avoid a release of the home-trained cyclist by the current value of his clause (180k$).

The plan right now is offering confidence, as De Fauw has led the team in the last sprints. Though he still isn’t scored any points, a bit far from his best shape. Our Team Ambassador, Richard Masson attended the final press conference of the team at Harstad, Norway; and here is what he said about “Case De Fauw”.

“Naturally, a cyclist of his talent and youth surely attracts a lot of interest from top teams seeking a D2 Captain as top team mate. But until Day 90 he is a rider of Amstel Flanders and I’m sure both sides will reach an agreement. Maty feels good in the team and we are happy with his performance, whether as leader or lead out”.

Current contract: 1M€ salary for S74, until S74.
Team offer: 1.2M€ salary, until S80. Salary can get up to 2.5M€ if he becomes Captain Ahab and Sønderby retires.

Portugal Josué Pinhal: The Portuguese flat roader became oficially RtR by D80 of the past season, after he turned 35 years old. Josué had been a key stone after the retire of the legendary Normann, and he even rose his arms in triumph with our team. He is ready to trigger his peak form once again and until our race directors find another option from the Academy or an experienced flat roader cyclist, we’ll still count with Pinhal and his excellent power output in the long, flat roads. Despite his contract ends by the end of the next season, both the rider and the staff thought necessary an adjustment to free some wage for other renewals.

Old contract: 500K€ salary per season, until S75.
New contract: 200K€ salary per season, until S75.

Norway Wilhelm Lindberg: After his great season, Manager Williamson considered fair to offer an extension for the Norwegian rider that will be officially signed and announced after Norway Tour, where Wilhelm is going to be the final lead out for American rider Carey. His salary will be slightly increased as a symbolic prize for all his years being the man in charge to launch Medgaard Sønderby to victory.

Current contract: 500K€ salary for S74, until S74.
Team offer: 550K€ salary per season, until S76.

USA Carson King: Another of our cyclists that ends contract this season. Carson has gained sprinting skills that have turned him in one of the key riders for the coming seasons, considering the crazy prices foreseen by the best market shark, Jintseng.

Current contract: 100K€ salary for S74, until S74.
Team offer: 150K€ salary per season, until S79.

Germany André Tran: The German rider is the cyclist with most races for the team. At 34 years old, André has helped all the captains with his great flat road skills and refined technique on the bike. His dedication and professionalism are undoubted, and he has agreed to reduced his wage to the minimum, to help the team with the increasing salaries of the leaders and strong supporters.

Current contract: 200K€ salary per season, until S75.
Team offer: 25K€ salary per season, until S76.

Portugal Roberto Lucena: A quiet, effective lead out that has done a good job for all the main leaders on the road. He will be offered one last contract so he can race calm, knowing he has a place to retire and kids can safely go to school without worrying his father didn’t pay the monthly bill.

Current contract: 120K€ salary for S74, until S74.
Team offer: 130K€ salary per season, until S77.

Now, here is the full scale of salaries and contract durations of our cyclists.
