Two seasons ago, we spoke in detail of Wilhelm Lindberg, and the turn his career took with certain episodes/choices. The final question was if he could redeem or resignate to his situation…
…and it is redemption.
Twelve days after the arrival to Australia, a cramped and broken Wilhelm leans over the bike, covered in sweat and suffocated. After the final stage of the Tour of the Ganges has ended, he can finally smile for the first time. Against the team prediction, he didn’t gather some cash and perhaps a top 3 in a stage, but won the Sprint Classification of the race at 34 years old, his first major win and our first jersey of D2.
Despite entering the race with lower discipline, as well as his team mates, his peak form lasted long enough to win two stages and finished second in another sprint, crowning his come back to the spotlights with a victory in the final sprint in front of the Taj Mahal. And these wins were his first with the team since S64. Manager Williamson rejoiced with his riders while flagging the new jersey above his head, another top notch for our museum.
With these wins, we’ve obtained the silver badge of Tour Stage Wins and reached 200 results overall. Indeed, a great redemption for both the rider and the team for this season.
Over n' Out.
