Sprinters Dominate
by Bob Smith, at 17/8-09 - 09:15 GMT

Looking through the OCM Riders rankings these days you would excused to think that the OCM was all about the Sprinters. The No 1 spot of the OCM rank has not been held by a non sprinter for many seasons now after the resignation of Team Zyte as a competitor for the overall OCM rank.

Looking down the ranks the top 7 riders are all big name sprinters. In the top 10 we also have a cobbling sprinter and a hiller who has just recently snuck up the ranks. Very niche disciplines to be represented so high.
  The

top 20 is a different story where we have 3 outstanding time trialists, two expert climbers and a young all rounder in Nico Holt.

People will say the reason for this imbalance in the OCM rankings is due to the imbalance in the races. Not to long ago when Äme Anderberg was the top dog there where many more disciplines represented in the top 10. I think this more than anything shows the quality of competition out there these days. In the Time Trials alone that used to be dominated by the lone wolf

Oskar Dam we have Sven-Olof Dahlström, Verner Mathiasen and Halsey Rowzee all better skilled than this great legend. This doesn't even take into account the depth of talent in the TTs these days that is very close to this level.

This is a call to arms of all those non sprinting teams out there. Do you want to be seen as the second class citizens of the OCM! Then its is time for someone to raise their hand for the non sprinters of the game and make a real competition for the No 1 spot.
