Once again, the World Tour season is almost upon us. For the uninitiated among you I’ll try to provide a short preview of what we can expect. The World Tour is a chain of races in which countries, not teams, compete against each other. Every participating country has a manager that can select a team from all active riders. These countries then try to score as many points as possible in all the different races. The country with the highest amount of points at the end of the season wins.
That’s in a nutshell what the World Tour is about. The game is, of course, rigged, but that’s part of the charm. Last season’s winner Denmark has 1353 riders to choose from while 48th placed Macau has 12. Because of this big difference in number of riders Macau will never beat Denmark, but I’m sure | | that Macau National Team Manager Primeiro will try nonetheless. The World Tour is the place to dream big and go for unrealistically high goals. Every season a few countries overperform massively and a few others underperform horribly. Strange things do happen thankfully.
It’s almost impossible to give a prediction for the win here, but there are of course ways to look at it. The factors worth considering are number of active riders – a clear advantage for Spain, the quality of the manager – Norway has the current highest placed manager, the overall quality of the riders – I really like Netherlands here and just plain luck. Taking all these into account, some inside knowledge here and there and some Bermudian chauvinistic feelings, this is my prediction for S41:

Norway, Denmark, Netherlands
**
Belgium, Bermuda, France,
England, Poland

Italy, Romania, Portugal,
Spain, Czech Republic
I could be close, I could be completely wrong here. We’ll know in a season’s time. The World Tour kicks off on Day 15 with the World Tour-A cobble race Velikiye Luki – Gruzdovo and the World Tour-B cobble race Lozuvatka – Kryvyi Rih. Sadly, there is still no WT-C cobble race on Day 15. Let’s hope we can one day celebrate having one. Good luck to all the different World Tour countries. Join the discussion on the forums and most importantly, have fun!
