Perm Permutations - Rasmussen retains pink as Dilmen comes up short

Jean-Michel Kermarec rescued nonnies' Perm Tour with a fine time trial win in Stage 3, beating out stiff competition from the likes of AnnoDomini's Doyle Doe and CCFC's Franck Jacobsen.

Here are some of the evening's talking points.

Super Rasmussen sews up GC win

While Kermarec's win at Perm - Perm (ITT) brought joy to fans of nonnies, all eyes were on the last couple of riders to set off on the course.

Rain had threatened to fall as the morning wore on, but the skies stayed mercifully clear as SupperSopene's Roy Rasmussen looked to protect his general classification lead heading into the last stage.

Norway Tour winner Hüsnü Dilmen was only 47 seconds behind and the Manisaspor rider knew he had a real chance given the similarity between his time trial ability and Rasmussen's.

Indeed, the Turkish champion seemed to be riding at a steady clip on the course,

comfortably extending his lead over PegasusFlights' Alain De Keijsere, who was only a further second behind him at the start of the day.

All that was moot however as Rasmussen, the last rider to begin the race, came out of the blocks like a man on fire.

The 26-year-old had gained another five seconds on Dilmen at the first time check and did not let up for the rest of the route, finishing 1'16" ahead of the Turk at the conclusion of the stage.

That all but crowns the Norwegian as winner of this edition of the Perm Tour ahead of tonight's last stage.

"Roy had good legs today," said team boss Mestersopp. "We got some luck and he was magic. We're really happy."

Slow and steady wins you third

The other big(ish) winner of the day was nao's Hernan Brizeno.

Chile's national champion finished 25th on Stage 1, 27th on Stage 2 and 14th on Stage 3, moving him up to a heady 3rd in the general classification.

  Which goes to show,

if you're a climber who can also time trial, the Perm Tour is very much suited to your abilities.

Brizeno is no stranger to OCM tours, having won the Race of the Minutemen and coming in second at the Norway Tour twice.

But this third place will be as satisfying as his other results, as he stayed patient and plotted a really tactical strategy.

  Oldies are still goldies

Hugh Innskeep's love affair with the Perm Tour continues, as the Burren Connemara man rode a tidy time trial to end up 6th in the general classification.

The 33-year-old was not alone however, as he was joined by 34-year-old Kevin Västberg (NSCT) in 5th, 30-year-old Emanuel Uffenbrink (cilmeri) in 7th and 31-year-old Csoknay Aurél (Szirmai Világos) in 12th.

The legs will go sooner or later, but not here and not now.

  Great coverage, thanks Dodge.

TT counts to much for the gc in my view, but we are happy with the win and 2nd in YC

It is great that Kerry Purget managed to fly over to Russia and provide us with this lovely overview of the tour.

Putin paid for flights and accommodation.

The best narrated race in the history of OCM. And for free. Then I send a seedy OCM HD entry and they give me 1K and a scout... Nick, scratch the pocket.
