  Not many have heard from Erly Hellemann and that is not a shame. The rider is not a great winner. In his short carreer he only won three race when he was riding for Danish Team Trier. But it does not need to win races to become some sort of legend. It can be a variety of things. For Erly Hellemann it was to become the fastest in the world and become number one. Recently he began training to become a better time trial rider. He is a member of Top division team Gradient Levellers and he has not done well for the team. His idea was brewed upon when he was again being playfully

mocked by his teammates and he packed his bags and travelled Canada, Vancouver to be precise. At an altitude of a thousand meters he began racing as fast as he could. Only a handfull people witnessed his attempt. At first out of curiosity but when they noticed the steady pace and high speed they began more and more enthousiastic. It was here that history was re-written and they were there. Laps passed by and kilometer after kilometer passed. Only ten minutes to go and his average speed is above that of the mighty Montelbano. Can he keep up, will he prevail or will he collapse and another dream shattered before their eyes. His legs screamed, his throat was red and dry. This was a rider that was about to

meet his maker and all for that one goal. Be fast, faster, fastest. And another lap was done. Only six minutes left and his laptimes collapsed. He has to pull this one through, he has a margin but not a lot. Ride Erly, ride. As if there is no tomorrow. Three minutes left and he is still above the record time. Will he be the first to beat the 54 kilometers an hour. Yes, he did it. There is no more pain, no more thirst, no more little crowed. There is joy, of the rider, the mechanic and the spectators that are watching. A new world record after twelve seasons. Will this one hold and equal time. Who knows but, who cares. Erly Hellemann is the hero of today and for some time to come, the best in the world.
