The Breakaway with Fujimoto Masaaki

After two weeks we have another Breakaway. We have missed the Germany Tour, Nederlandse Tour, Fast on Wheels and Classics like Bali Classic, Giro di Vicenza and Orel – Kurks Classic. But as an old Japanese saying goes, what is not in sight is not in mind. And therefor, we start fresh again and look back at the big race of last week. The World Championships in Norway, again.

   World Championships ITT

We start with the first category, the timetrial. The complete top of Top division in timetrial was ready to ride against the clock for the imaginary jersey one can win when becoming the best rider against the clock. It was

a race that was just like it should be, riders racing alone, cheered on by bystanders and in the end it was a Dane who won. Sven Ulstrup had an incredible time and neither Florian Everaerts and Boris Ommen could beat.

   World Championships

The World Championships are held on the last day. A big purse of prizemoney is available when all the other teams can do nothing and twiddle their thumbs. It is a great feature only the priviliged can experience. They get a

nice jersey and thirty thousand dollars. The incredible arguments why this is fair is even more ludicrous and people actually believe it. It shows that you do not have to be smart to be successful. In the end it was the Belgian Jacque Van Haerschot who took a surprise win. You don't even have to be a good rider to win this race. This one hit wonder secured a victory for Nairobi City Cycling Club ahead of Pierre-Antoine Redon and Jedrzej Domanski.
