With the week starting in Norway as we followed the Norway Tour, the biggest tour in division three, we wore our knitted sweater against the icy cold as we travelled from the north of Norway all the way down south. It did not matter, it was just as cold. Next season we go to Hawaii and leave the Norwegians alone.

   Norway Tour

With the prologue starting in the north of Norway it was the Faroer riders that dominated. The only strange rider was Nam-jae Heo of South Korea. He scored valueble points for the sprinters jersey here. Stage two was a flat stage and gave Nam-jea Heo a first victory. The third stage was again for Nam-jea Heo and the winner of the Sprinters Jersey was already known. With two mountain stages we knew the General Classification would be different and two climbers won it with a decent margin over the others. Nam-jea Heo won the time trial in a great performance and Kyle Wyles took the stage to Bergen. The big stage to Lilehammer was won by Anthony Dabe of Driehoek with the final stage going to Hafsteinn Sveinlaugursson. In the end it was Laurentiu Timofte who finished on top to give Indurain team his first ever big victory in his long career of manager. Interesting to see is that this rider never finished in a top three position the complete tour with a fourth place as best result.

   Cymru Taith

When we left Norway after a great race we went straight to Cardiff in Wales. Cymru Taith was about to start in division two. A great, old and respected race through the hills of Wales. And with three time winner Hugh Inskeep at the start it is always exciting. The first stage was for Eudes Chretien who outsprinted the field in a great stage that had enough hills to seperate the riders but did not. Stage two was the timetrial in Newport on Johan Skogstad secured a well deserved victory for Andeby. It was Albert Hakkila from Kingstowm who secured the lead with a third place. Finishing in Cardiff it was Kingstowm who won, not once but twice. First the stage with Gerard Oosterhof and after that he could collect his dragon jersey for winning the general classification. Beating Hugh Inkseep and Adlre Lovvorn, both from Ireland. If that was not enough he also won the youth classification for being the best young rider.

Bergen Rundtur

Division one would not be division one if they did not have a great race in a week of great races for other divisions. Bergen Rundtur is the least of the classics but it is still a classic and the teams still want to win it. And with many great teams it is still a challenge. In the end it was a succesive win for the same team that won it last season but with another rider. Egbert van Asseldonk gave Il Grillo its third victory in Bergen and secured a second for himself. Beating two other Dutch teams for the victory making it an all Dutch team, team wise.

  1. Egbert van Asseldonk, Il Grillo
  2. Pierre-Antoine Redon, Ron Cycling Team
  3. Benjamin Kervel, NECFTW

   Tour of Hawaii

Why did we go to Norway and Wales if we could go to Hawaii. It is a question I ask myself for a while now but, I do not know the answer to that. I do know that next season I will be here instead of Norway. The good weather and great views around the course was phenomenal and the riders and team of division three will like to come back here. The teams of division three filled a great peloton and with Jan-Joost Batenburg a good sprinter could manage to hang on and beat them all in the final sprint. It was not a bunch sprint but a small group of great riders. It was not a great surprise that he won as both other riders on the podium were more climbers and hillers.

  2. Gerwin Lute, Byttingvik
  3. Heinz Gleisenberg, Allgäu

   Criterium la Grasse

The big mountains around Grasse are the scenery for the division four classic Criterium la Grasse and all the big climbers were present. Some participated in tours already and others wanted to continue their great win streak. After hundred kilometers of one hundred forty two we could see a small group of riders leave the peloton and on the last climb only a handfull of riders were able to hang on. With a final dash it was Edi Bacilieri who left his fellow riders and arrived solo at the finish claiming a great victory for Herens Cycling again. Adrian Sikora and Reginald Wescom completed the podium in a great race.
