Volta ao Porto - a preview

We have no the first tour of division two. One of the greatest and oldest tours on the calender. Volta ao Porto is a ten stage race through and around the counties of Porto. Some teams are keen on winning it, others are focussing on daily prizes or sub classifications. Let us see who is who.

   rooney17

Let us kick of with rooney17 and his sprinter Abelardo Rabal. They go for the Sprinting Classification. With a lousy last season they are eager to show why they stayed together and a victory in the stage would be very welcomed.

   California Mist

American California Mist is in for the big win with Roman Caso. The Spanish climber is one of the favourites for a good result in the climbing stages and we will surely see him in the top of the General Classification.

   Nefal

With Norwegian Nefal we have Joppe Marant at the start. And Joppe Marant is already in Portugal winning, with a victory in Porto GP. And he wants to repeat his victory from season twenty six. A former winner is always a rider to watch.

   blast

With Knut Boye, blast has another surprise rider trained from scratch. Knut Boye has topform and will most likely get some results in the mountain stages. With that they probably have a good shot on winning the Volta ao Porto or the Youth Classification.

   Oekiewakkie

Oekiewakkie brings a full Dutch squad with Nick Hagman in the lead. This Dutch sprinter is keen on winning on the flat stages. The Sprinting Classification is a goal but, we think it will not be possible. A good result can be though.

   Fissa

When you want to see a competitor for the Sprinting Classification we look at Fissa. With Gilles Rouge they have a very good sprinter that is ready to take on everybody on the flat stages.

   Ultras Spirit

  Igor

Mora is in great shape and brings in a lot of experience. Could he bring Ultras Spirit their biggest victory as of date. With his topform this rider is one of the biggest favourite in my book.

   Velo Kiwi

Velo Kiwi from New Zealand entered Volta ao Porto with Danyon Miller in topform. Will they go for the flat stages or will they still support Alama Lange. Both riders are very good and both are still young. Sprinting Classification or Youth Classification. Tough call.

   EpoTopTeam

Anastasio Marroquín from EpoTopTeam is young, Spanish and a climber and thus he will do great things. A victory is expected from this rider although he is only twenty three years old. Youth Classification is something that is interesting for this rider.

   Team Boehringer

Team Boehringer from Germany is joining with Corentin Thouvenin of France. This sprinter is here for the Sprinting Classification and is in topform. Yes, he is expected to win the flat stages or at least get some results there. A good sprinter for the early stages.

   AK Pro Race

Wil Fermon Veron give AK Pro Race a nice farewell gift. Will he be sold if he does. A great rider and a mystery why this rider should leave the team. Rumour goes that his Colombian passion is working on El Pato's girl.

   Joss

What can you say about Arild Selnes. He had a great season winning three stages at Norway Tour and all where in the mountains. This could mean that he can do very good in Volta ao Porto. Climbers watch this rider when the road goes up.

   sivac

A team rarely seen in tours but with Connell Severo they have a right to be here. This young Irishman is very decent and can compete for the Youth Classification aswell as the General Classification. He could stay high if he maintains a steady pace in all stages.

   Quick step minded

  Jéger László

is the rider for Quick step minded to win the Sprinting Classification and he could do it being very good in the flat stages. With many victories already this rider is eager to show what he has good. Too bad the manager is a tosser.

   Club Ciclista Riaza

Club Ciclista Riaza is a big team in OCM. Winning many big races with big riders, they now have entered with Santos Abarca as their main targetman. A climber by heart and good in the hills. This rider will do fine in the mountains. His lack in timetrial training will cost him a good result in the General Classification.

   radu

We gamble on the Slovakian Matej Zošák being their captain. This rider is an allrounder and that can get him far in some races. Being Slovakian champion should give him a confidence boost and he might get a result this tour.

   Team Monster racing

A new face in tour racing but with a rider like Miguel Nascimento they have the right to be here. They probably want to win the stage in the hills as he is not as good on the flat and mountains aswell as the timetrial. A victory in a stage is what counts.

   Die Tour Phantome

Can Freddy Beaulieu win the tour. He was close last season finishing second and he wants to beat that this time. We believe they still do not have it in the end and finish lower then last season. Cheerish that second place, it will not get any better.

   Cyclocomotiv

Another newcomer is Cyclocomotiv and he brings Marco Italiano. This rider can beat his previous best, finishing third last season. A climber with some skills when the finish is on a flat part. A rider to be watched for the General Classification

   Nairobi City Cycling Club

The defending champion entering without the defending champion. The change to the Kenyan nationality has left us with Frederick Longosiwa as captain. The big sprinter for Nairobi City Cycling Club. Being a contender for the Sprinting Classification we will not see this team back next season.
