Giro di Sicilia - a preview
by Finz, at 17/11-14 - 23:42 GMT

Some unfamiliar teams have signed up for the Italian tour Giro di Sicilia. But in the end almost all of them are experienced in racing tours. One team a bit more then the other though. Only Uber and Durban Dolphins are without experience in my book. Giro di Sicilia will be decided on the last stage most likely, will there be an upset winner or will the favourite win.

   Forza17

With Aarón Chedraui, Colombian Forza17 is bringing a young talented Spanish rider that is still eligable for the Youth Classification. With decent support he could be able the secure some nice finishes and even a few results. A contender for the Youth Classification.

   Holwerda Cycling

With their captain Jan-Joost Batenburg they could go for a victory in one of the flat stages. His sprinting skills are one of the best and his team is decent. Maybe they can upset some of the big teams with this all Dutch team.

   Fighting

Fighting from Romania is enjoying this tour and scenery every day but one and that is day one. With the best timetrial riders in the field they want to win the first prologue. Recently it is not a done deal when you have the best timetrial rider in your team to win the prologue. Some of the sprinters want to do well there also.

   TJ Banik OKD

The home team of TJ Banik OKD has arrived with their young star in Sicilia. I expected great things from this rider in a previous tour and he sort of let me down there. Will he go for the Youth Classification this time. He should be, he is young and talented.

   Dormilon

After a brief look through the entrants Dormilon stood out as the big favourite for me. With Fernando Allende they have the best sprinter in the field and with a great team to back him up in the sprints and in the last stage he should go for nothing less then top three in the General Classification.

   Ahmed cycling team

Can Mohamed Yassine Medressi repeat his victory from the first edition. We fear the competition has grown stronger and the team of Ahmed cycling team is staying behind in progress. The team is decent but not special and Mohamed Yassine Medressi is not the special sprinter he used to be. A top nine would be desired for.

   squadra sora

  The

Belgian squadra sora is here with Aleksander Skytte. A new member of the team that should deliver some results in the flat stages. An interesting line up and after winning a stage in the Danish Fast on Wheels tour can they win a stage in a higher tour. It would be a unique thing.

   Men of Steel

Roman Wieckowski is leading the pack for Men of Steel. The Polish rider is a very good sprinter and should be able to win a stage here. He will not dare to think about the General Classification because the last stage in Sicilia is a decider. And Roman Wieckowski is terrible when the road goes up, even a little.

   Grant Thornton

The Canadian Grant Thornton could not resist signing up for another tour. Could Emmanuel Locklin prove his skill after his recent failure or do they go for Douglas McKenzie again. The Canadian could try and do could in the prologue. After that it is all work for the sprinter I guess.

   Flanders Fields

A veteran is leading the Belgian squad of Flanders Fields. Kai Diggele has seen many managers and won some races in various divisions. Will his experience grant him success in the upcoming tour. His manager is hoping for it. And with a decent tour in Race of the Minutemen we know Kai Diggele can still bring home the money.

   ALAITZ ATHLETIC TEAM

Min-ho Ryu is riding for ALAITZ ATHLETIC TEAM. Born in South-Korea but trained in Spain this rider is able to finish up high in the flat stages but his main goal is to upset his fellow Spanish competitor in the last stage. This could be the guy, riding in his national jersey, to get an upset victory in the end.

   THE DUTCHIES

You can not get enough of the youngster Milo Hulscher. He is hot and ready to attack the roads in Sicily after his Kangaroo Tour. This young Dutch rider will try and finish high in the Youth Classification and maybe even win a stage or two.

   WEST COLUMBIA

The Czechs with Felix Fencl are here to ride a stellar first stage. We noticed them before and promised great things to team but the rider dissapointed us very much. We hope he can get his act together and do a great race now. A good time trial rider but can he deal with the pressure. That is the question.

   Uber

A learning experience is what Giro di

Sicilia is for Candian team Uber. Their first tour and with Zack Traylor as their captain they have a good rider. The team as a whole lacks depth and that will probably cost him a good position. A surprise result in a stage is possible.

   Kalakini CC

With Robert De Meulder Kalakini CC has a great rider to try and win the General Classification. We do not put much money on him and we fear he will be glad if he finishes in the top nine but, he is build for the hills and can sprint in the end. He could secure enough seconds to win it. If he does well on stage one.

   ASADO Team

The Argentine team of ASADO Team is working with the philosophy that they only want riders from South America. And with their current team they show that it can work. Normando Gallego is leading the squad and is considered an allrounder. With a decent team behind him he can try to minimize the dissatvantage in the sprint stage and secure a nice position in the last stage. He could do it and I will keep an eye on him because I like allrounders.

   Durban Dolphins

With three victories this season in a time trial race, Alastair McNab should give Durban Dolphins a nice result on stage one. With two other riders like, Garrick Fredericks and Tommy Koops they can even go for a full podium. In the end, that is all what they can hope for. And I believe they would not deny it.

   Team Decokay

Some inside information was needed to get this team signed up on time. Team Decokay is here with their sprinter Giel Calwaert and he could be the dark horse this tour. With some victories behind his name his team spirit is good and he can sprint uphill. That could be vital for this tour. With twenty eight he is in the prime of his career.

   Team Albatros

Team Albatros is working for Åge Lindström. An interesting rider and capable of finishing in front and already won a race this season. The team they are bringing however should not be able to defeat the other teams. A top nine in a stage is all they can count on.

   LFC Rado team

Last but not least is LFC Rado team from Poland. And with Yonas Yehualashet they have the Ethiopean champion in their team. A good sprinter and he could give LFC Rado team a nice result in one of the stage. With some decent support this team could do good, if he did not over do it with signing up for races.

Holwerda Cycling at 08:55 18/11-2014
Nice preview! I hope Batenburg xanget a result in the sprint stages. For the gc I think Bruintjes, Allende, Hulscher, Fencl, De Meulder and Callego will fight for it

  NICEEEE!!!

Super Velo at 20:00 18/11-2014
Darn, I wish I could have gotten in to this tour. Brooke Wilbur took 3rd in GC and he won the last stage last season and he could have had a good chance to win this season. Thats what I get for winning a race and going to div 3 just before this tour came available. Good luck to all entrants...
