The second edition of the Giro di Montelbano is about to start in division three. Many teams have signed up and we see a mixture of teams with sprinters and timetrial riders. Who will be the team with the best choice, will it be a sprinter or a timetrial winner. Let me know in the comments below.
Nobodies
With Jimmi Broders, Nobodies has a very good rider as their captain. He should be able to get a result on the first stage and maybe even a victory. If he manages to defend the time trial specialists on stage two he would hold good cards for an overall victory. A big favourite, especially if he hits topform.
Hells Grannies
Hells Grannies will rely heavily on Tapuwa Mathema as their captain. They want to score some points in the first stage and probably win the last one. A top nine finish in the General Classification would be decent and with a support team like that should be doable.
YellowFellows
The South Korean YellowFellows have Bo-il Kung as their captain. He will be able to secure nice places in stage one and three. The lack of timetrial abilities will be a vital miss as he will not secure a nice place in the General Classification. But with a surprise victory or a nice result we believe YellowFellows is not concerned about that.
Team Blund
Will Markus Westby be the one that saves the silver for Team Blund. He will give it all he has on the timetrial to reach for the highest place in the ranking. Will he be strong enough to maintain his power in the hilly terrain around San Cataldo, if he does he can secure a nice result.
Twente Cycling Team
Roman Petrescu has won last years Race of the Minutemen and is build for the Giro di Montelbano. He will not reach his best form but, with his capabilities in the hills he will most likely not lose much time on stage one and capable of taking the lost time back on stage two. If he wins stage two or get a result there, we could ad another tour victory to his palmares.
rooney17
Will Abelardo Rabal take over the position as leader or will Afanasy Tyannikov still be the patron of this team. Both are keen to win the second stage. We believe it will be the younger that can secure a better spot but, Afanasy has surprised many of us before. Good chance he will surprise us again, with a victory.
Kingstowm
Michiel | | Pruijsers is a very good sprinter when the stages are tough and over hills. He could do well on the first stage and lay a foundation for his grasp of the Youth Classification. His lack of training in timetrial will leave him without a chance for the General Classification but, that is probably not the goal.
Sons of the Desert
Terkel Lindegaard is the undisputed captain of Sons of the Desert. It could be one of his last tours where he is considered a favourite as he will start to feel the pains more since he turned 32 recently. On stage one he will be with the best and on stage two he should consolidate. A top nine finish in the end is expected.
ekaitz team
Estebe Pimental is the Argentine champion and he wants to keep his jersey for a while. As a specialist Estebe targets stage two for a victory and a good General Classification. ekaitz team should be able to give the other teams a good run for their money, although his underdeveloped flat road could prove him he is not strong enough. An early win in Italy, already, boosted his moral though.
Cycling Nieuwegein
Cisco Plaza can do it all and will be able to secure a nice place in the first stage. He could hang on in stage two and get a top nine probably on stage three. In the General Classification it will all depends on his performance in all three stages. A top nine is within reach if he maintains an overall level of performance.
Rabo utrecht CT
Erik de Kelper will probably be the captain for stage one and three, as he is the sprinters of the team. But Arne Saeter is most likely trying to win the tour with a stellar performance in the time trial. He could hit topform and when he does everybody should pay attention to him for the victory.
Kalakini CC
Good old Eddi Autzen is already a veteran within the peloton. In his second season for Kalakini CC he wants to do well in the third stage of the tour. As a specialist sprinter the other two stages are out of reach for him. With a decent team behind him we expect a nice result there.
Super Velo
Super Velo is bringing a nice team of sprinters at the start. The will probably want to surprise themselves and the rest on stage one but, most likely save their energy untill stage three. That is the stage where they have the most posibilities of claiming a victory. Mannes Lighthart could get his first result of the season finally.
| | lastplace1414
With a complete American team we are looking at lastplace1414. Gabe Rocha is their captain and he is expected to stay in front on stage one. As a climber he has the power to attack the tough terrain. His lack of sprinting legs will make him not a favourite for the victory. A top nine should be nice.
NSCT
From one, one nation team to another, NSCT brings a team of Swedes. Äme Hjort is the sprinter that should get some points in stage one for NSCT. He can attack the hills and has a decent punch in the legs when the finish is in sight. He will not be able to maintain his ranking after stage two and we will probably see him on page two in the General Classification.
Forza17
Aaron Chedraui could be the surprise nobody has seen before. With twenty three he is young and eligable for the Youth Classification. His sprintinglegs are good and he is great when there are hills. He should get a result in stage one. His timetrial is mediocure and therefor will lose much time. On stage three we could see him upfront again.
VC Montpellier
Wayne Slygh is only interested in stage one. He wants to win there as he is a hiller pur sang. After stage one we will not see this team in front anymore and with a victory behind their belts they probably do not care about that. Without a good result their tour is over before it has even begun.
Telstra
Darcy Rodwell wants to improve his result here from last season and he finished second. Only a victory will be satisfying for Telstra. As a former top team he now has to be satisfied with the little crumbs but, he still wants the biggest little crumb. A victory in Giro di Montelbano is wanted.
Lots o Huggin Bear
Will Deyaf get the confidence to perform on stage one or will Lots o Huggin Bear manager pull up another card from his sleeve, like last season. Last minute injuries in his team made him change his tactics and resulted in a Youth Classification victory. Can he work his magic again or will they see through his tricks and unmask him for who he really is.
Peloton Pushers
Lucky Loser Peloton Pushers managed to secure the lost spot available. With Christof Ahnfeldt-Mollerup we have a well known name signed up. The lesser known relative is specialized in the timetrial and wants to win stage two. Every thing else is not important and a nice top nine finish there is also nice. I wonder if we will see Lean Ahnfeldt-Mollerup, I still need his autograph.
