One on One with the Don - Asymm Project

Welcome to another new and exciting one on one with the Don. The 'lucky' interviewee this time, is Holger Czukay, from Asymm Project. Let us see what kind of interesting things he has to say:

Why did you start playing OCM?
My PCM broke, and I was on Christmas holidays. I needed some cycling in my veins, so I found this. Best drug ever.
It's quite obvious that you're focus on Asian cycling, but you are actually Spanish. What is the reason for the Asian involvement?
I got the inspiration for doing such thing in Equipo Easy On, a team that used to focus on Caribbean riders. Given that most of my team was Malaysian by then, it made sense to go for Asia.
But why did you choose Malaysia in the first place? Surely there must be more behind it that just being inspired by EEO?
Oh, well. Fantastically, Holger Czukay is a Turkish businessman who lives in Port Dickson ,Malaysia and wanted to promote local cycling. Actually, I just wanted to choose some exotic country to start here, it was a more or less random thing.
Enough about your inspiration. What were your main goals when you started and have you achieved them?
Our team has always dreamed about reaching top division, riding the cobble classics and winning Germany Tour. We have been able to make some of those dreams come true, and we are working towards achieving the rest. The only goal that is actually missing is winning Germany Tour, even though we were also happy to win Astana GP with an Asian rider.
To achieve the goals you have not reached yet, what are your plans?
The only goal that is actually missing is winning Germany Tour, even though we'd also love to win Astana GP with an Asian rider (we won it with Teravainen, from Finland). The plan for Germany is quite simple now: doing the best possible season with Keovilay and Xiang to qualify for the Tour, and then using Delicano's top form there.
What would you do if you win GT and have no goals left to reach?
Well, managing a team is a never ending goal I have. But I guess that looking at the General Classification of the Germany Tour endlessly sounds fine too.
Ok, I think your future is quite bright if you put it that way. But what do you see as your biggest success in the past?
I would be tempted to say Putin's Volta ao Porto victory. But that is "only" the most emotional moment. Our best moment, however, has been the demonstration that perseverance does the trick, winning Roubaix Classic with You Xiang. He could have won it in the past or lost it this season, but it's undeniable that he deserved winning it at least once.
  Does Putin's emotional

victory or Xiangs big success make one of them your all-time favourite rider, or is there someone else with a special place in your memory?
I have to name Putin, Bricenos or Delicano here, but the very special place in my heart and mind is for Subramaniam Lee, our first trained rider, who was a cobbler and now manages a cattle farm.
Now we are on the subject of things close to your heart. I must ask a question about the Mysterious Lady. Is it true that she is, or was, the real boss and you are just a puppet?
I am the boss most of the time; however, I must admit I fear she will became the ruler of the team if she decides to do so... which makes me kind of a puppet, actually.
Maybe it would have been better to interview her, but we are moving on; do you have talents of whom you expect to do well?
Right now I have Ku, from the talent feature, I know this looks almost impossible, who is improving steadily to be a top hill-climber-sprinter, and I am about to sign the Iranian Zardooz, a Good, sprinter, cobbler, flat road and technique guy, who is already training for me at Gradient Levellers. I will pay 135.000 plus training costs until transfer, so that is absolutely the highest amount I have ever paid for an untrained rider.
With talents with such wide ranged potentials, what are you planning to focus on with them?
Zardooz is going to be trained as a cobbler. I need to find a replacement for Xiang soon, and he is my bet. With Ku, I plan to be really strong in the mountains and hills, being able to cover anything from pure mountains to hill sprints with the help of Keovilay and Delicano.
Now you have mentioned Keovilay. Him winning the Vuelta must have been the biggest surprise of your career. Did you ever think you had a chance to win without topform?
I did not even think I had a chance to repeat my seventh place from previous year, with so many captains in topform. Hopefully, what happened in Vuelta meant that the game improved, given the recent changes Nick made to Tours, so I am double happy: I have won, and this victory caused a change for better.
Is this victory even more special because it is you first Tour victory with a fully Asian rider, or do you still like Putin's Volta jersey better?
I worked hard to achieve the victory with Putin, and luck played a big role this time, so I am definitely happier and more proud of Putin's Volta jersey. Anyways, I have to congratulate my rider Keovilay for such a feat he achieved.
Hard work, I never did that. Is that the key to why I fail and you do not. Or do you have another secret tactic you want to share with me?
I do not know if I do anything different than the rest tactically speaking, but I have noticed, from helping other

managers in the Spanish subforum, that many managers think that new tactic roles are always better than the old ones. Big mistake. Other than that, I think I am high in the ranks because I love micromanagement, but that is not funny for everybody.
Does this love for micromanagement mean you plan everything into the slightest detail?
More or less. I know what DP my riders will have for a race, I know when will a job appear, etc. because I note down that kind of information and use it to improve the team. Not that I am obsessed with doing well, I want to think, it is just the way I enjoy OCM the most.
Enjoying yourself is the most important part of the game, so I would say you are doing the right thing if it makes you happy. But have there been times that you were less happy with OCM, like with missed sign-ups, accidental TF's, a bug, etc.?
I have suffered a couple of long, unexplainable streaks of bad luck that left me clueless and sad. Oh, and my riders also use to do awfully in top forms, which is really annoying. Definitely, it is not a good idea to recharge a top form for a rider in Asymm Project, but we keep doing it.
We arrive at the end of our interview. Do you have anything you want to share with the community? Any tips, fun facts and what else?
I know some do this, but for those who do not: try checking the results of a race from the bottom to the top, without looking at the left column, where you can see if you got a result or some money, nor the overview page. It is exciting climbing through the list without knowing where your captain is, and then finding him in a good place. We do not have the real life rush of victory, so this is a good substitute.
Choose the one you like best of these and try to explain your choice:

Climbing or Sprinting? Climbing. I have always had a climber as captain, and that speaks for itself.
Training or Transfer?Training, of course. It is funnier, and fits well with the team's philosophy.
Points or Trophies/Jerseys? Trophies and Jerseys, because I love tours.
Dussel or The Beast? Nicodemus Balanchine. But I choose Dussel over Mollerup.
EEO or FFL? EEO, because of his all-Caribbean project that inspired us to do the same in Asia.
Germany Tour or Vuelta? Germany Tour. It is the greatest Tour of the calendar.
Forum or Chat? Forum. It has been a long time I have not been in the chat, I do not have time for that now.
Real Life or No Life? No life. In fact, I am writing from Brno (Czech Republic), where I am visiting the Mysterious Lady, and I should be with her so I am leaving. Well, let me check if I got any red balloon first, do not tell her.
