"I have had enough of Joe. He hasn't been around for months and I haven't reached my full potential because of him."

  "He goes or I go!"

A scuppernong rider, aged 28, was overheard commenting on the state of his team at the end of the recent Kolari-Muonio race. He is unnamed but the comment was met with shock from the nearby reporters and riders.

This could prove the final straw for Joe who has had previous conflicts with the great Truman Woodson before he departed

for FFL and Delmar Vancleave previously.

When this statement was put to Joe he replied, "No man is bigger than the team. I am not afraid to get rid of riders who don't ride to their very high potential. I will get rid of any baggage. I have done it before"

A spokesman for the Professional Cyclists Association has also been in contact stating that "A number of cyclists from a top all English Team have been in touch with complaints about the bullying approach of their manager but only when he bothers to turn up. They are seeking legal advice to end their contracts or

have their manager removed." The only teams this could relate to are either English Sprinting Team or Scuppernong. Michael was unavailable for comment.

Whatever the outcome, this is a long line of episodes involving Joe falling out with his riders. The most recent rider could prove his downfall due to his popularity among the national team and their supporters. Many in the cycling world will not be surprised if Joe isn't in the same post this time next week, which he has held for 25 seasons.

Some will see this as a loss but many will be happy to see the back of him.

The question raised here is: 'Why is Joe neglecting his duty as a team manager?'

It is summer and the sun reflected from the white legs of his paleskinned English rider which blinded his vision
