The Don's interview with Joss

There are so many passionate managers in OCM, but you never quite have the time to hear their full story. But that is going to change, because from now on I will be interviewing managers. This time, we decided to go to Norway and meet Jo SoebstadS manager of Joss.

DH: Why did you start playing OCM?
Joss: I started playing OCM because I was interested in real life cycling and wanted to try out a cycling manager game. I was looking for something similar to Pro Cycling Manager, but found OCM and fell in love with it almost at once.

You started quite recently and are at quite a high level at the moment. You must have done something better than most starting managers, including me. What gave you that head start?
Well, most managers probably don't know it, but I had a former team which was shut down. Therefore I knew some of the normal beginner mistakes such as not spending all your money on staff. I did one big mistake though, I sold almost all my riders at once. Most of them became top riders in top teams. Except from that I guess the reason just must be that I spent a lot of time reading from the manual and forum.

What was the best moment in your managing career so far, and what your worst?
The best moment in my managing career so far was definitely winning the second edition of Fast on Wheels. People might find this strange since it is a division five tour and I have won a Division three classic and the king stage of Race of the Minutemen, but winning a tour was really great. I would certainly love to do it again. It is difficult to say what my worst moment was, but I guess it goes to those moments when my riders maxed at averages such as 39, 42 and 43.

So Reginald Haney got you your best moment ever. But is he your best rider ever?
Oh, that is a tough question. What Haney did was certainly

great, he fitted perfectly for Fast on Wheels and won it with a big margin. However I would not say that he is my best rider ever. My team has always been focusing on the climbs and the rider with most results is Dirceu Scahisi. He was the first rider I trained and was the rider who lead my team from the lower divisions to the divisions I am in now. His best achievement was winning the division three classic Zyte GP, king stage of Race of the Minutemen, two times in the top three of the general classification in Race of the Minutemen and also three classic wins in Division eight.

Many managers have a favorite nation, where they would like all their riders to come from. Do you have such a favorite nation?

Not really. When I look for riders I don't really care what nation they are from. But of course I am extra interested in Norwegian riders as I want to make the national team stronger. I am very impressed of what nrk managed to do with a 100% Norwegian team, maybe I'll try it one day.

You mentioned nrk as a team which you are impressed with. Do you have a certain team that is or was a shining example for you?
I can't say I have/had one specific team that is/was a shining example for me, but as you mentioned, nrk was a team I looked up to and he helped me a bit in the beginning. CCFC was another team I looked up to after I registered, he was then the number two in the world behind EEO. And yes, I remember that the first editions of RotM found place shortly after I registered and I followed them with great interest, so Team Crazy Downhillers should also be mentioned cause I wanted to do like him.

Almost every team has a story behind their jersey, logo and of course team name. What is your 'story behind

the looks'?
Nothing cool to be honest. My team name is an abbreviation of my real life name, my logo is just something I found on the internet and my jersey was made in the same color as my logo.

So the new season is about to start. (at the moment of this interview) What are your goals for this season?
Well, I have one big goal and that is Race of the Minutemen. I really want to stand on the top of the podium there. Kuhlmey will most likely be in top form and been to the timetrial centre, if not, I also have Scahisi as another option. Apart from that I am currently training Salvino Salgada, to become a climber and tour rider, so I hope he can max high.

Do you have anything you want to share with the community? Any tips, fun facts and what else?
  Lutefisk FTW!

Choose the one you like best of these and try to explain your choice

Climbing or Sprinting? Climbing. I have always been a climbing team.
Training or Transfer? Training. One of the most fun parts of the game.
Points or Trophies/Jerseys? Trophies and jerseys. Points disappear, trophies and jerseys do not.
Dussel or The Beast? Dussel. What he has achieved in Germany Tour and Netherlandse Tour is amazing.
EEO or FFL? FFL. EEO's golden age was before my time. With all respect to EEO, also one of the best managers ever.
Germay Tour or Vuelta? Germany Tour. The greatest tour with most history.
World Tour or World Rankings? World Ranking
Forum or Chat? Chat. Because you can talk with Danes.
Real Life or No Life? I don't understand this question. What is real life? Nah, just kidding, real life comes first of course.
