Day 9
Where the Top Division climbers can please themselves with Zürich-Bern-Zürich (Switzerland), the Zyte Division stars have their fun in neighbor Austria. Ainet - Bruggen is the scene for the clash of the climbers in the second division. Diederik Calwaert (Il Grillo) was the strongest of all, this edition. In an interesting fight he was able to defeat Rolf Enoch (scuppernong) and Moises Bricenos (Asymm Project). Winner of the previous edition Fido Fernandez didn’t join because he was in negotiation with another team to make a transfer. Diederik Calwaert won his second classic in his career. After winning Critérium la Grasse, he can now add on Ainet – Bruggen on his list. The 32 year old Dutchman has shown he still isn’t too old to compete on a high level.
Day 15
Vejle-København. The race is known as the ‘La Doyenne’ of OCM. The classic that is open for all teams that are ranked in the first three divisions. The first six editions of this race were won by Danes. After the first six editions of the race only two Danes were able to win this beautiful classic. This season, the 28th edition of Vejle-København, was won by a Dane again. Lukas Brøkker (Team Unibet) was the fastest this edition. The gap with number two Humberto Villaroel (TEAM SERFIN97) and number three Didrik Jønsen (Dingetjes) was small, but enough for the win. Lukas Brøkker is also most likely the youngest rider ever to win Vejle-København. At the day of the race Brøkker was 22 years and 83 days old. A performance to be proud on.
Day 20
The | | only cobble classic of Zyte Division can be found in Belarus, Minsk to be precise. On the though cobble pave around Minsk Medwin Whiddon (TEAM SERFIN97) showed his class. He was the strongest of a small group. With his win in Minsk Medwin Whiddon secured his first victory while riding for his new team. A nice start for the English youngster who defeated Jean-Pierre Schooters (CARCYCL) and Mike Toftager (Team airik) at the finish line in Minsk. Whiddon had a great season, besides his win in Minsk CBGP he scored two results in top division classics and a 3rd spot in a Zyte Division cobble race. We are probably going to see him more often in the feature, but for now the beautiful Minsk CBGP trophy is the only trophy for TEAM SERFIN97.
Day 35
Mito-Tokyo. This race had very nice riders as winner in the past. But one name is missing, ‘Susu’. Susumu Miyazaki had a great career but unfortunately he never won his home race, Mito-Tokyo. In the several times he joined his home race his best result he scored was a 5th place two seasons ago. Big races deserve big names as winners, but big riders like Susu deserve to win big races like Mito-Tokyo as well. Susu is now spending his last seasons as professional racer in lower divisions. Let’s hope he will be back in Zyte Division someday, to give it an ultimate try. Back to this season. Joost Paschiers (Stroopwafel) saw his name added on the list of winners. He finished in front of oldsters Damario Barba (Luveaucek) and David Pires (mirabelle).
Day 54
Nathaniel Carrol (Telek@m) is back! After a short absence Carrol has found his way up again. On the difficult terrain of Lappi Sea GP he showed his qualities. The race that is made for good hillers with sprint capacities or sprinters with good hill capacities he showed his strength. His combination of being an incredible sprinter with good hill skills paid off. He proved he was stronger as the hillers Roel Beetens (Team Trier) and Okamoto
| | Yukio (team tdb) who came in 2nd and 3rd. That two disciplines meet can be seen on the list of winners. It gives a nice combination of sprinters and hillers who have won Lappi Sea GP.
Day 56
Equipo Easy On aka EEO. EEO is the former nr. 1 of OCM. He dominated the Top Division for some time, but then needed a new challenge. He sold all his riders and started over with a completely new team. One of the talents of the renewed EEO is Chaleunsouk Souvanhno. Souvanhno is a good sprinter with some nice hilling capabilities. Souvanhno is that good that he was able to win Grasse-Toulon. Second in Grasse became Sevastian Torrens (Leukefans) and third Valter Grönkvist (JJL24SS). Souvanhno is the successor Didrik Jønsen who won Grasse-Toulon last season. Souvanhno didn’t only perform well in Grasse Toulon, but he scored results in two other Zyte Division classics as well. He added a 6th place in Lappi Sea GP and a 7th place in Mito-Tokyo to his result list.
Day 70
The light version of Helsinki GP is Helsinki GP Mini has an interesting winner this season. The Netherlands is known as a well-represented country in OCM, with a huge amount of good riders. Given that information you would expect that Helsinki GP Mini already had a Dutch winner in one of the previous 13 editions, but that was not the case. Philip Plagge (ultrajectum) was the first Dutch rider to win Helsinki GP Mini. Plagge is now on the same list as the three time winner of Helsinki GP Mini Lean Ahnfeldt-Mollerup. Plagge is on the winner list now, but two riders who didn’t made it to the list yet are Mikuláš Malina (Luveaucek) and Boje Damm (Wizzyweb), who came in 2nd and 3rd. They will have to try again next season to win the trophy of Helsinki GP Mini.
