Big Transfers S22
by Yuri, at 10/11-12 - 14:59 GMT

  For the first time ever, OCMagazine decided it was time to analyze the transfers made during the season. We looked up on big names, untrained riders and the biggest amounts paid for a rider. As you’ll see not much happened, there could be much more. Some say the economy is the problem, but this could be just a period where old riders are leaving and the young guns must show up. Who will be on Top in 2 seasons? We don’t know…

  Avery Nijholt, day 30
  What a better way to start then with the most expensive rider ever. Nijholt times where he was worth 1.2M are over, but this time his team Equipe Hollandia was quitting and he needed a new one. What a better place for him than the current nr.1 team in OCM, sprint4live. They “just” payed 350k for him, making this the 2nd most expensive transfer so far this season.

  Ignaas Bogarde, day 23
  He’s very unknown for many, but until now he’s the 2nd most expensive untrained rider this season. He costed sprint4live 115k and some say he has reached his maximum at just 37 AV. He could be huge! Now he’s just a huge money lost for sprint4live and a huge transfer for nonnies.

  Damin Iacob, day 6
  That’s right, the mythical downhiller left the USA, and probably won’t be back. The 31 yo was sold by POM Wonderful to the portuguese Top team Greenride for 250k. If you ask me if he can still perform. Yes he can! But first he must get some space in Portugal to become the leader. Won’t be easy.

   Finbar Wollam , day 28
  One thing we noticed while doing this list is that despite not having huge amounts in any transfers, we have some big names changing teams. That’s the case from Wollam. Wollam changed from Belgium to Italy. From omega pharma lotto to TEAM SERFIN97. Again, he’s not young but still capable of getting results. The Italian outfit payed 215k to get the English rider.

   Nicodemus Balanchine, day 25
  The Killers completed the dream of several teams in OCM. They have Nicodemus Balanchine and Jens Waesbergen inside the team! Who would say these 2 giants would race together? Only problem is that they are both 35 yo. Too old for anything. But still… Just think about it. The Killers payed180k to sprint4live for Balanchine.

  Werner Bouma,day 36
  Former YC and Top3 GC from the Germany Tour was sold from Team Revolutie to WV De Dommel. The reason? Tem Revolutie quits. Despite that reason… there could be no other. Let’s see what this great rider can now do inside his new team. Specially in the Germany Tour. The price was 250k.

   Fido Fernandez , day 4
  A special rider as we all know. One of the biggest riders from his generation! Fido changed from his “home” team to top team Kremer. Looks like the polish outfit is starting to look to other ways to win. And just look at their

team! This was the biggest transfer so far and it involved some astonishing 400k! Not as big as many before, but considering the crisis, it’s huge!

   Vitaliy Bayer, day 43
  Just after 57 days inside Hommerts Cycling Team, Vitaliy moved back to Gradient Levellers to race in Essex. The English man must be really confident for their home tour to guarantee the sign up this way. It costed them 195k. Welcome back Vitaliy!

   Alfeu Freitas, day 21
  Another big rider, another sale out. This time it was CycleMotor. This wasn’t a usual sale out. This time the first come first served was the rule. And the prices, well… They were the RV. Lusitano was the first answering the request and bought this portuguese machine! We asked for the price, but there was no one to tell it to us.

   Julian Pope, day 37
  Remember this guy? Of course you do! He’s one of the most well known cobblers in OCM. Why is he on this list? That’s because he’s team (Team Revolutie) quits. As he’s not that young, it wasn’t that easy to find a new house for him. He decided to go to Spain to join mirabelle for 214k. A fresh start for him is all we want for him!

   Migel Pinto, day 17
  Age… The problem of every middle aged man. At 34 yo Migel Pinto saw his days inside Team Dinmore over and joined CARCYCL probably to finish his career. The price was low as expected. 170k for a rider like him some seasons ago was insane! Who knows if he can still perform in the Zyte division. And let’s see if he gets the chance for it.

   Pascal Parcalab, day 47
  To do an amazing season isn’t enough for everyone. Pascal Parcalab, nr.15 in OCM (!!!) was sold from Kaizzee to Ultras Spirit for 350k meaning this was the 2nd most expensive transfer so far this season.. What lead the Australians to do this, no one knows! But Pascal will return to his home land to rock! Let’s see the effect this transfer has on him and we just hope he doesn’t lose his position in OCM do to that.

  Spiridon Apetri, day 42
  Apetri is a World Champion. Even so his life hasn’t been easy. Changed from teams 3 times and now he’s in South Africa. nonnies bought him for 195k from HC Alpine , another team leaving. It’s the 2nd time he get’s this luck. We hope that now nonnies don’t decide to leave! Maybe it’s a curse.

  Otto Hagman, day 36
  2 times Champion from RotM and 7 different teams is a strange curriculum. Hagman is for sure a special rider, but he’s not considered the Top. That’s why he changes so much and never fits. Well this time he’s in Dutch soil (again). Rode Stier bought him from Team Crazy Downhillers, which is Hagman’s dream team. The amount was 190k.

  Boris Jordon, day 37
  At the end of these 15 biggest transfers, we

have the biggest transfer for an untrained rider from this season. Jordan left the Portuguese team Benfica Cycling Team to join Tears and Saints for 151k! Strangely after 12 days, he’s not trained at all. Was this just a bluff? Or is he a true prodigy? All we know is, he’s part of the OCM history already!

  The other big transfers:
  - Alfeu Álvares from Scorpions POPRAD to Dingetjes for 210k on day 2;
  - Erik Van Engelen from KK Perutnina Ptuj to POM Wunderful for 250k on day 5;

  - Arne De Brouwer from DrapeauNoir to Seeds2 for 200k on day 35 with 46 AV and unmaxed;
  - Oskar Ella from Shinboners to Galliano4827 for 225k on day 40;
  - Spiridon Sandu from Kremer to team amc for 205k on day 44;
  - Kade Jennings from Koala Cycling to Hommerts Cycling Team for 200k on day 46;
  - Agafon Patrushev from Ultras Spirit to Honor et Patria for 290k on day 47;

  Some statistics:
  - Team Revolutie was the team most involved with 4 transfers and a profit of 914k;
  - sprint4live, NECFTW and omega pharma lotto were the most involved active teams. Profits of -285k, -182k and -200k;
  - 44 teams were involved on the 32 analyzed transfers;
  - 6867k was spent in this transfer period with an average of 221,52k per transfer;
  - Fido Fernandez was the most expensive (400k) fallowed by Avery Nijholt and Pascal Parcalab both with 350k;
  - Martijn Vande Populiere was the cheaper trained rider. Just 155k for a 53 AV rider;
  - We had an average of 0,67 big transfers per day;
  - The climbers were the ones who got sold the most. We had climbers in 50% of the transfers;

  I'm sorry for all of those who I missed...
