Cymru Taith S22 - A Preview
by Yuri, at 30/10-12 - 14:25 GMT

The old land of my fathers is dear to me,
   Land of bards and singers, famous men of renown;
Her brave warriors, very splendid patriots,
   For freedom shed their blood.

Unfortunately no warriors nor splendid patriots. Not a single Welshman signed up this year! Nevertheless blood will be shed and only a few teams will sing.

   Welshpool - Bangor

All Hill Climbers are ready for this one. And the field is stronger then ever! With Former winner Drimalas (Kremer) as big favourite this stage will be all deciding for the GC.

Drimalas knows his team is packed with support but still he can't be too comfortable. Biggest challenger is Demario Teodro who is also supported by a great bunch of teammates. Fun Fact: this is the first ever tour for The Doomsday Bunnies with 6 trained riders.

And then there is Erwin Geitz (Team Oasis) the Dutch beast. He is probably the best rider for this race, but his

team might be a little weaker then Kremer or A. Fool's. Still he has the odds to be on the podium after this stage.

Outsiders are Farley Redman (Team Kernow) who will compete for the YC title and Jimmi Svejstrup (Epotopteam). Behind thes big guns Hilly Sprinters Luís Landim (Darkwave Recordings) and Philip Plagge (ultrajectum) will try to hold on on the longer climbs and try to make a difference in the last km of the race.

   Newport ITT

The riders who lost time yesterday won't give all today, except for those aiming for this stage in particulair. Celso Leitão (blast) Teofil Galazka (Cycling Nieuwegein) Lars Gjerde (Hard Gaat Ie) Tom Kiatkaew (Legia) Gian Calliani (Team Zero1) are sure guesses for a top 9 spot.

From the GC contenders the usual suspects: Drimalas, Teodro, Geitz, Svejstrup, Plagge. Biggest surprise today will be Luís Landim who should be able to get some time back on the big 3.

   Newport - Cardiff

So the GC is set, just picking up the flowers for the parade race. To be honest if Plagge doesn't win it would be a genuine disgrace. In fact even all his leadouts should be good enough to pick top spot here. There is a couple of guys they need to watch: Obviously the Villain Villumsen (Darkwave Recordings), very young Paulis Ronis (mirabelle) and Jan Thomsen and if all goes well for Kremer Spiridon Sandu might have a go at the podium too.

   YC

Farley Redman is the main man for the YC. He will be contended by Robert Lefevre, Felipe Maximiliano and the man with a great name Cisco Piza.

   GC

I think the top 5 is pretty easy to predict, but the order is not. Geitz, Drimalas, Teodro, Svejstrup and Redman will be there. Okay lets shake it up a bit: 1st Teodro, 2nd Drimalas, 3rd Geitz, 4th Svejstrup and 5th Redman. But absolutely no guarantee.

EricV at 17:38 30/10-2012
  Nice Article!

Team Oasis at 17:56 30/10-2012
Indeed short but welcoming article. The mentioned favourites are also mine. A Fool's team is looking extremely good and we all know his track record in tours. And of course Drimilas with very good support is there as well, perhaps the most alround hiller in the game. I'll settle for third, but secretly hope to pull a 'Lima'

ultrajectum at 19:20 30/10-2012
Sorry for the shortness... Unfortunately my boss actually wants me to work nowadays :(

Manisaspor at 19:31 30/10-2012
short but to the point let's say

ultrajectum at 20:24 30/10-2012
Ah Rasim is an outsider for stage 3... Damn forgot him!

Kremer at 20:34 30/10-2012
Spiridon Sandu will be lead-out for Drimalas on stage 3. He won't fight for the podium ;)Thodoros will try to win all 3 stages in Cymru!

ultrajectum at 20:50 30/10-2012
  Impossible kremer

Team Kernow at 21:47 30/10-2012
Nice article :D , although I,m unsure that Redman will feature in the Gc, without any TT training. But I hope so :D

NECFTW at 22:10 30/10-2012
  Impossible pees?

Ever looked at edition 9 of cymru....? :p

ultrajectum at 22:15 30/10-2012
Plagge was not in edition 9 Noppes ;)

NECFTW at 22:46 30/10-2012
  who?

Shelbourne FCCC at 18:59 31/10-2012
Hi, First stage race so i dont expect to have any impact on GC with no TT training done.
Any chance of a breakaway win on Stage 1? Probably not with the strength of some of the top teams.

ultrajectum at 21:07 31/10-2012
  Sure BA is quite possible...

NightmareChaos at 22:10 31/10-2012
  highly unlikely

Kremer at 11:09 1/11-2012
  So it was BA :P

NightmareChaos at 11:47 1/11-2012
I think it, if she plays her card well in the TT, Edinho wins this tour, as he is a TT'er

ultrajectum at 11:54 1/11-2012
Edinho should win... But tt in tours :(

mirabelle at 16:17 1/11-2012
I hope your right and Edinho wins, but i will be very surprised if it happens.

Team Oasis at 18:00 1/11-2012
I'll be fine with Edinho as winner as long as i'll end 5th or higher in GC ;)

Manisaspor at 18:06 1/11-2012
'What am I doing in Cymru' stage is over...

ultrajectum at 17:44 2/11-2012
At least I predicted stage 3 right!
