The End of an Era

Today, the legend called Äme Anderberg has given yet more strength to those that don't want him to retire.

Äme started his career a long, long time ago at team Monsters Inc., moving to Team Zyte still early in his career.

At the Danish team, Äme won everything there could ever be won.

A massive, massive presence in bug races, he's been a leader of the riders from the Zyte camp.

A massive 58 (yes, fifty eight) results and 19 wins. But don't let that fool you. Äme won the Germany tour twice, and capped it today with a fantastic win (his third) at the World Championship road race.

Having missed on the Germany Tour this year because of poor team classification on the GC, it was quite

a bit of kick in the teeth of those that had him dead and buried. The big man just grinds his teeth and pedals like the wind.

But, let's not forget that Äme is not yet retired and we can still expect him to ride a few races over the next season.

He's the sport's most popular rider and his presence is enough to make crowds gather. Kids want to wear his jersey, his helmet. Parents in several Nordic countries name their kids Äme. It's just crazy and the sport will never be the same without him... that's just impossible.

Still, a big, big congratulations to Äme and to Team Zyte.

P.S. What will Äme do next? Stay with Zyte and work on training riders or will he be taking on the role of manager in a new team?

Here's a quick summary of Äme's career:
