Belgium overtakes Denmark
by Nick Lissner, at 4/8-09 - 12:51 GMT

For the first time in history, Denmark has lost its lead in OCM. Belgium is coming in as a more popular nation and the effect can already bee seen. In Season 8, Belgian Ward Deroek from Team airik conquered the World Championships held in Spain, while Pascal Lannoye from FFL has been climbing the ranks with a current position of 6th.
In Perm Tour and Germany Tour, Belgian Kurt Swinnen claimed a lot of attention as he won Perm Tour including a stage and finished 2nd in the Sprint Classification as well as he did a good figure in the big tour of Germany.

Many of the former Danish cycling stars are over the hill or soon-to-be, while nations such as Belgium received a lot of fresh blood. The question is if the Belgian teams can overtake the

Danish ones as well.
Currently, Belgian Joco_be is the highest ranked Belgian team being placed 19th on the global ranks with 1620 points, while Epolinaris is the second best Belgian team placed 47th with 918 points.
Denmark however, is dominating with 5 teams in the top 20 and a total of 8 teams in the Top Division.

Denmark has 85 ranked teams on the global ranks while Belgium is catching up with 83 teams! The Netherlands are however dominating this field with 123 ranked teams.
For many seasons, Denmark was without doubt the dominating nation, but those days seem to be over. The competing nationalities are coming in fast, and it's only a matter of time before Denmark no longer reign as number one.

Belgian results
Belgian Ward Deroek conquered the World Championships along with the classic Critérium La Provence only one season after he turned professional.

Pascal Lannoye (FFL) made a good figure in Germany Tour where he placed well on various stages and finished 9th in the General Classification. Additional, Lannoye's resumé contain victories in Paris GP and Helsinki GP in his break through season.

Roland Berton from Joco_be finished 3rd in the sprinting race above all, Norwich-London in Season 8 and conquered several other results in the Top Division.
