16:08 GMT         Day 88 of 90, Season 68

Happy Birthday
by Yuri, at 24/3-12 - 16:04 GMT

Today is March 24. We are in the year 2007. In a dark room in a typical Danish home in a typical Danish village one boy is sitting behind the flickering light of his computer.
He has been working for some time now on his new hobby. His parents think it is a waste of time but he is determined to finish it.
It is uploading to the low cost hosting provider and when that is finished he will link it to the sitename he just bought.
Downloading is finished. We will try if the new webaddress is working. The boy types in www.cyclingsimulator.com.
The computer rattles and the page is loading.
There is a login page. A big smile emerges on the boy's little face. He is typing in his newly invented teamname and he logs on as the first excisting team in this game.
Light goes on in the room his father is standing there in his pyjamas, his mother is standing behind him. The complete street turned on their bedroomlights.
Everybody heared the scream of the little boy when he entered his first ever race in his own game.
We write March 24 3 o'clock in the night and a new cyclinggame is born. Online Cycling Simulator.

Now is the time to enjoy this little beauty and make it grow up. And more important to get some competition. Friends are invited to play. And soon even complete strangers join the game.
The game is growing. And after making it he enjoys playing it now. Five years has past since that day but he will never forget his first victory.
  The first Oslo Rundtur.
After a while the game was in for something new. As he was watching cycling on the television our little boy thought of something.
And soon after he invented two nice looking Tours. One situated in Norway and one in Spain. He was so proud of them and everybody was excited to race them.
  Tours are something

you do it for. Multiple days riding for that famous jersey. First the Norway tour was raced. You can not imagine what a complete fail that Tour has become.
Everything that could go wrong in it, did go wrong.
Meaning the end for Norway Tour. The Spanish tour called Vuelta del Este Costa was the second and was rebuild with the experience of Norway Tour.
Now it should go better was the general idea. But the general idea was wrong. Also the Vuelta del Este Costa was abandonned right after the first race.

In this first year a lot of new things emerged from the brain of the little boy. Jersey's for some upcoming countries that played the game. The Essex Tour, the third tour
that was made and the first that finally worked how it should work. One day classics, they were made just to gain more cash and some prestige.

This first year was full of new inventions and the game grew and grew with new players arriving from all over the world to play this Danish cycling game. Cycling enthousiasts who wanted their own racing team.
But after a while during the second year of the game something terrible happened.
The game was growing so fast it was unnatural. And then it struck the little boy, who had grown since then but not a lot, his beloved game was filled with "those who will have no names", cheaters.
Year two existed to search for the unwanted and ban them from the game, and making new divisions. Because many new players still arrived and played this game.
A staggering 400 visits every day in year two.

Year three was something to never forget. The game had 8 fully working divisions and a total of 6 tours and blasted through the 1000 visitors a day mark.
A little party was celebrated for this happening as only Danish people can celebrate little

parties.
New divisions where created and even a new tour was added to the exsisting ones. Wildcards where given to people that wanted to trade but this privileged job was given to a trusted friend.
The coding in the game was to much work to do that also.
And the game was growing. Now the visitorline went up and up and up everyday. Those 1000 visitors a almost doubled by the end of year three. But this success was becoming to much.
  Little cracks started to form.

In year four those cracks resulted in the collapse of the original server the game was working on. The game was so popular it was screaming for more workingspace.
As a result we saw a big strike from all the riders in the OCM peloton. No team had riders that wanted to race a race.
What was happening and how should we return back to how it was. The solution came from within. Donations arrived from all over the world to the Danish village. The community wanted a new server.
And a new server is what they got. The game runs smooth again. And as a result the community received in year four new tours for the divisions three and four.
Jerseys for almost all national champions, we are still waiting for the rest, but we got a lot already. And new tactics which is our latest novilty.

We are looking forward to another five years and I think I can say we want to thank that little boy behind his computer five years ago for some great fun he gave us.
Do not think we are making it easy now, we still want new tours, more divisions, more races, less training costs, more transfermoney etcetera, etcetera.

But for now I would like to congratulate a proud father and say happy birthday to cyclingsimulator.com
