Season 15 Awards Gala - Part II
by Itisix, at 7/4-11 - 22:36 GMT

So, after that small pause for commercials, here we are again to reveal the results.
Vancil looks comfortable talking to the crowd, but Lebreton is more robotic when it’s his turn.

By the way it seems that they don’t want to delay the big surprises, and an elegant lady brings Lebreton the first envelope while he announces the candidates for Best Hiller Trophy.

Vancil smiles when he sees the name, dissipating the rumors about Joselito Rangel as the winner. The local authorities start an enthusiastic applause even before the name is announced. Truman Vancil (Equipo Easy On) wins the new trophy added this year!!! No need to walk to get it, he almost gave the Trophy to himself!

Next category is Fergal Lemire Trophy for Best Sprinter. Mr. Lemire complained about the awards as his name didn’t appear on the web for some days due to a human mistake, so he’s not attending the gala. Lots of elbows this season in a pure-wild competition: Nicodemus Balanchine (Gradient Levellers) wins!!! He repeats the victory of last season’s awards. His manager looked confident about the chances of his rider this morning when he talked to us.

Best Climber Trophy is a difficult category, and it seems no one is favorite to win it. But this doesn’t mean that there wasn't a great rider in the mountains. Of course there was! But not one, a lot! All my credit to the winner, and... he is Sterling Dorsher (FFL)!!! Four wins including Alpe d’Huez classic and a solid Germany Tour have been rewarded with this trophy that probably comes before retirement.

Time for the Belgian classics: Best Cobbler Trophy goes to Sieuwerd Schimmel (Team RI) in a fantastic season!!! There was no doubt an impressive season on the tough cobbles, winning in Antwerpen, Roubaix, and getting a podium in all the cobbles classics. There was simply no rival for him, although he congratulates his rivals for the hard work in his speech.

It seems that there is no big expectation with the next Trophy: Time Trial goes to Gregory Levis (Equipo Easy On) for fourth time in a row!!! A bit -a lot- more expectation for his speech after a big applause by the riders, who backed him during the strike. “(…)First, I want to apologize for the strike to all those riders, teams, fans, and officials. Probably there was a more pacific way to solve the whole affair (…). This said, I can only be grateful to the community, as they voted me once again, also for the mails of support I’ve had, and to Nick and the officials for their availability.”

All of a sudden there is whispering in the audience which grows talking and even shouts: "Frauds!" It seems that some members of the audience noticed that in the ‘Committee of Five’ no members of SNAOTR were elected, whereas The Syndicate had 3 representatives (NECFTW, Yuri SuperTeam and Asymm Project). SNAOTR members are shouting: "Pettis should have

been shortlisted more, I can’t believe it!"
Committee member Noppes takes the stand and reassures the audience that "voting was fair and square, these alliances were not taken into account".

The order is somewhat restored after this and Noppes leaves the stand. Is that a wink we see?!

By the way, Lebreton apologizes for that unexpected instant. We spoke to Noppes this morning too, and he explained the policy of selecting the Committee was so detailed that we could never say that The Syndicate had any influence there.

The Elias Márquez Trophy for Best Tour Rider cannot be presented by other than Márquez himself. This Trophy adopted his name this year as recognition for his great Tour performances in the past. The winner is Vitaliy Bayer (Gradient Levellers)!!! Big surprise as Vasco Assis was a big rumor is last hours, but winning Germany Tour has been enough for that young gun.

Now time for the youngest of the lot. Best Young Rider Trophy. The future can be on his hands… but the present also is: the winner is Vitaliy Bayer again!!! Caraway was heavily rumored for the trophy, but winning in Germany Tour is something that deserves to be rewarded, not one but twice. Third award for Gradient Levellers. Mr. Johnson looks extremely happy, but his young guy is so nervous that seems to have preferred losing the award to Caraway.

Time for the Best Breakthrough Rider Trophy, for the best comeback of the season. Also no doubts here. After a season where he stopped racing and rumors were spread about the possibility of quitting, looks like Schimmel will win two trophies. And there he is, Sieuwerd Schimmel (Team RI) wins!!! This time he thanks all the people involved in his victorious comeback, especially his parents and manager. He shows deep emotion and happiness.

Best Rider Outside Top Division is again a difficult category. Lower divisions have improved their level a lot, and some teams in Zyte Division ended up dropping to 7th division.
Then we have a tough competition. And the winner is… Kristoph Villumsen (Darkwave Recordings)!!! Vancil announces that both Pettis and Malta have been really near in this category.

Time for the last crappy-trophies… I’m sorry, never wanted to say that, just I’m too excited about the Best Rider Trophy to arrive. This time is Best Breakthrough Team Trophy, the one that recognizes the fastest way to the glory, the perfectly timed climb of the rankings, and this name is… Bywater CT!!! I want to congratulate Jacek personally, if you allow me to do that, as his level of calculation was near scientific.

And time for the big awards! Now Pauli Michielsen, current World Championship winner, will give the Trophy to the best rider of the season. Oh, wait, there is Laurits Junker! The crowd hails him in a mix of laughs and friendly joke. He is going to speak, let’s listen to him: “Hi all! I wanted to say a few things… No, I

haven’t done anything forbidden to win the World Championships’ Time Trial. There are a few things I think no rider or manager competing there can recall, but I do… Do you remember that the Championships were going to be in Australia, and there was a last moment change that made us take a plane to France? Well, in compensation, the organizers gave us free beer on the planes… and well, the rest is history. I needed to medicate, as I always do, because I fear flying, so I was sleeping while you were having the biggest party you ever had. When I woke up in the airport, you all were sleeping with a big hangover…”

Wow, what an explanation! Best Team Trophy goes to Equipo Easy On. No need of exclamations here, I think, but again all my personal recognition to Eli for such a season. His first 60 or 70 days of the season were something hard to believe. A big sincere applause from a standing crowd. You can’t see me at your homes, but I’m also standing now.

And time for the Ame Anderberg Trophy for Best Rider of the Season! Nick Lissner is giving it, as Vancil is one of the contenders. He’s alone with the envelope. Silence: “(…)goes to… GREGORY LEVIS (EQUIPO EASY ON)!!!!!”
The rider who defended the peloton and reigned on the time trials… congratulations! Nick and Gregory shake hands, so I think we can close the transmission with that symbolic moment. Great season to remember, won’t you agree?
