Helsinki GP Upgrades - New Classic
by Nick Lissner, at 6/9-09 - 15:47 GMT

Helsinki GP has been a part of the OCM Top Division since Season 1 and is now upgrading. The race organizers managed to attract many hot names during its history, which now finally pays off. The race organizers recently announced a new sponsorship with Zyte, who also is behind races such as Rundt om Vejle and the prestigious Essex Tour.
The new sponsorship means that the prize money for the race has increased a lot for this 9th edition in Season 9. The winner will be awarded with no less than 24.000$ compared to the standard 18.000$ prize money for the winner.
The upgraded prizes, along with the race's

history makes the race a part of the classic series. The race features a series of big shot winners: Kenny Haakon (Team Z), Pascal Lannoye (FFL), Chris Dell (Juno), Estanislao Fraga (Team Sørensen), Falkner Doiron (Babon), Bjerke Sanddahl (Team Weeny). The many top stars has all been in the top 5 in the world, and most of them even reached the top spot at some point in their career.
The former winners are unquestionably a part of the top riders in the history, and they all put their own touch to the race, which with the new prize money and status probably will become one of the most popular races on the calendar.

Along with the upgrade of the main race comes the creation of a new race. The new sponsorship even allowed the race organizers to organize another race, which resulted in the Helsinki GP Mini taking place on Day 70 in Second Division. With the high prizes, the race has immediately turned into one of the classics of the Second Division.
