Those fond of statistics and history would have enjoyed this week in OCM, as records have been falling everywhere.
EEO hit new heights
Over the last week, Equipo Easy On set a modern day record for points in OCM as they broke the 8,000 and then the 8,500 boundaries for first time. Having taken over Number 1 in the rankings a couple of seasons back, EEO are now exerting dominance over OCM. Their lead over second place FFL now stands at 2,500, a level of points that only the top 10 ranked teams in OCM have.
They are also dominating the rider rankings. Truman Vancil has led the OCM rankings for the last season, but 3 other riders have joined him at the top. In 2nd now sits Gregory Levis who has been steadily improving over the season. In 4th and 6th stand Broderick Rimmer and Clarence Caraway. It is likely that EEO will dominate the Season 15 awards, though I think even they would struggle to win the Award for Best Rider outside the Top Division!
EEO manager Eli was asked about his team this week, 'The last | | 90 days have been going close to optimum, so I do very much expect it to go down. I do insist that this level of points is not sustainable. So I have no ambition to maintain this level - I might get stressed!'
Whilst it used to be the 'Big 4' at the top - EEO, skils, CCFC and FFL - it is now more of a 'Big 1 + 3'. Team Whalers are the only team to have broken them up recently though it seems the American team have gone into hibernation for the time being. The manager of FFL went on record this week saying, 'lets hope some new blood fights their way to the top to push us on soon'.
Transfer record broken
The OCM transfer record was also broken twice this week. First Conrado Fraga moved from Gradient Levellers to alberta 1 for an undisclosed fee. However, it was confirmed that the fee was in excess of the previous OCM modern day transfer record - CCFC's purchase of Darrel Randel last season for 400k.
A day later, Gradient Levellers then used the money to buy Matthias Drejbo from the disbanding Telek@m
| | team for a staggering 900k. Sources from within the Telek@m team say that it was the Dutch team, skils, that pushed up the bidding. Levellers manager, Tim Johnson, defended the decision to pay such a large amount.
'With Equipo Easy On's dominance at the top, we're not going to be Number 1 in the rankings any time soon. So, it's the big races that we want to focus on and Matthias is exactly what we were looking for. Winning the Essex Tour is our number one priority and Matthias will hopefully be in top form for that race.'
And finally....
....after talking about Spain's bright future in the Clash of Nations, speculation has increased about the possibility of riders from the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and Ceuta being able to join the Spanish National Team. With the likes of new Essex Tour winner, Damario Barba (Luveaucek), Tito Vera (Presure), Garcia Dabino (Legia), Tulio Tuero (Pomada), Fidel Mora (Rode Stier) and Rogelio Nadol (radu) all possibly becoming available for selection Spain may become the EEO of the National scene.
